When I was a young boy growing up in the Dominican Republic, the walk home from school used to take my friends and I past groves of cashew trees. We would stop for a snack, getting the juice from the cashew fruit on our clothes in the process.
While I reflect fondly on those afternoon walks, my grandmother at the time was none too pleased—she had to wash the cashew stains out of my school uniform.
Since immigrating to the United States and settling in Jamaica Plain back in 1992, I’ve longed to share my childhood experience with the surrounding neighborhood.
Cacao is my vision for sharing these experiences with the greater Jamaica Plain community while offering one of life’s great culinary combinations—chocolate and nuts.
Stop by for a snack and say hello—we’d love to meet you.
